Day 1: Katherine – Gateway to the Outback

Begin your adventure with a welcome drink and light refreshments as The Ghan’s iconic red locomotive sets the stage for your journey. Settle into your luxurious cabin or mingle in the Outback Explorer Lounge, then enjoy a chef-prepared lunch on board.

Your Off Train Experience options showcase Katherine’s natural wonders:

• Cruise Nitmiluk Gorge and witness towering sandstone cliffs rich in Indigenous heritage.
• Immerse in the Katherine Outback Experience, meeting locals and exploring life in the heart of the outback.
• Discover the subterranean Cutta Cutta Caves, where limestone formations and native wildlife await.
• Upgrade to a helicopter flight for a sweeping aerial view of Nitmiluk’s grandeur.

Day 2: Alice Springs – The Red Centre’s Soul

Awake to the endless sky and red earth as The Ghan approaches Alice Springs. Choose from an array of Off Train Experiences:

• An off-road e-bike adventure through desert trails.
• Cultural immersion at Standley Chasm and Simpsons Gap.
• Wildlife encounters at Alice Springs Desert Park.
• Scenic flights over Uluru and Kata Tjuta for an unforgettable perspective.

As night falls, dine under the stars at the historic Alice Springs Telegraph Station, a signature Ghan experience featuring fine cuisine, live entertainment, and the magic of the desert night.

Day 3: Coober Pedy – A Town Beneath the Earth

Travel to Coober Pedy, the opal capital where more than half the population resides underground. Stop at Manguri for a sunrise spectacle before exploring Coober Pedy:

• Visit the striking Breakaways or delve into the history of opal mining at the Opal Experience.
